California’s Majestic Royal Gorge

Royal Gorge is located in the town of Soda Springs, California which is nestled in the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains. Situated near Lake Tahoe on Donner Summit, Royal Gorge is an easy three hour drive from San Francisco, one and a half hours from Sacramento and just 45 minutes West of Reno. Unlike most other cross country ski resorts, Royal Gorge is at a base elevation of 7000 feet which ensures reliable, consistent snow conditions. Actually, Royal Gorge receives more snow than any other location in North America!

Royal Gorge is the largest ski area in North America. The resort offers an enormous variety of flat, fast trails, rolling, intermediate terrain and trails that are geared to the expert skier. The number of trails is extensive and a newcomer could easily spend days exploring the Resort’s vast terrain. All of the trails are superbly groomed with vistas that will take your breath away!

Royal Gorge is a full service ski resort with eight warming huts, a spacious day lodge, three trailside cafes, two overnight lodges, equipment rentals, a ski school and waxing room. The resort offers midweek, multi-day discounts and half-day rates. Beginner packages include ski rental, lesson and day pass.

Lodging just steps from the Royal Gorge trail system is offered at Ice Lakes lodge, a cozy, Alpine style chalet overlooking Serene Lakes. A delicious, complimentary breakfast is included with each night’s stay in the lodge restaurant, which also serves lunch and dinner.

Additional lodging is found just seven miles from the resort at on the Yuba River at the historic Rainbow Lodge. Built in the 1920s, the beautifully updated lodge has kept its original charm with its Old Tahoe style woodwork and stonework. Rainbow Lodge also includes breakfast with the accommodations at its restaurant, which is a favorite of Lake Tahoe residents. Rainbow Lodge is, simply, a “must stay” for the first time Tahoe visitor.

For the 2008-2009 season, Royal Gorge will be open from Thanksgiving Day to mid April, Thursday through Monday. From December 18th to January 5th and February 12th to February 23rd, the Resort will be open seven days per week.

For reservations to either of the two lodges or for questions regarding Royal Gorge Ski Resort, call 800-500-3871 or 800-666-3871 for Northern California residents or locally at 560-426-3871. For all other information, visit us at www.royalgorge.com.
